Mentoring Programme

Promotional Lecture 2009

The Call for a Promotional Lecture is part of the Gender Equality Action Plan. The GE Action Plan foresees the promotion of female scientists in the field of research via financial support for young PhD female scientists in promoting their lectures (so called “Promotional Lectures”) in top-level institutions of their choice. The goal of the VIU-GM Promotional Lecture Plan is to help young female scientists get better-known in the scientific world. The VIU-GM will financially support their travel and stay in scientific institutions of their choice (up to € 1000), where they will be offered the possibility to present their achievements.
This kind of action will give young female scientists the chance to build their own network and contacts which will benefit them in the future as their careers progress. The promotional lectures will be organized on a regular basis.
  • Deadline: April 30th, 2009

Short-term missions 2009

The Virtual Integrated Unit on Gender Mainstreaming organizes short-term missions with the goal of improving gender equality in CMA. Short-term missions and laboratory visits at partner institutions are incentives that fit the real needs of female scientists. The GE Action Plan foresees the promotion of female scientists in the field of research by means of financial support in conducting their laboratory research and/or visiting a different research facility with the aim of learning and experiencing things not accessible at their home institutions.
Besides the research itself, this kind of action gives young female scientists the chance to build their own network and contacts which will benefit them in the future as their careers progress. Short-term missions will be organized on a regular basis.
  • Deadline: April 30th, 2009

Training Course for Young Scientists

On December 10-11th, 2008 the VIU-GM offered a training session on “Gender Working and Career Planning” prepared by Weidlich Consulting Training Mediation Coaching from Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The training gathered 9 participants from Austria, France, Switzerland and Poland.
The training was specifically prepared for the mentees and young scientists, both male and female, from all institutions participating in the CMA Network of Excellence and was conducted by Ursula Fleckner-Jung of Weidlich Consulting. The training lasted two days: during the first day the participants learnt about gender working, focusing on recognizing differences in the socialization of men and women, diversity in attitudes, values and convictions, particularities of the genders in processing information, verbal and non-verbal communication, etc. The second day focused on career planning.

Mentoring Programme

Mentoring is a process in which successful and experienced people help their younger and less experienced colleagues clarify and realize their personal goals as well as develop the means to reach them.

The goal of the mentoring programme is to help young female scientists start and strengthen their professional careers, help them realize what their strengths are, and recognize how to achieve their goals.
