VIU-GM activities:
- December 8th, 2009: Informational meeting about Women in Technical Sciences: an info day for students at the AGH-University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland. The VIU-GM director presented the Unit’s activities. The discussion and questions followed.
- October 4-7th, 2009: First International Conference on Complex Metallic Alloys and their Complexity (C-MAC 1) in Nancy, France, was organized with consideration to gender equality: equal representation of female and male lecturers, chairpersons, etc.
- September-October 2009: publication on VIU-GM in the second edition of the ‘CMA News’.
- July 6-7th, 2009: CMA CD and EB Meetings in Zurich, Switzerland. The VIU-GM director, Professor Aleksandra Czyrska-Filemonowicz, presented the Unit’s activities.
- June 2009: VIU-GM’s support for the female students resulted in master’s thesis on gender equality that was written by Ms. Monika Korbiel, an employee of the Department of Foreign Cooperation at the AGH – University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland
- May 2009: Updating of the VIU-GM flyer.
- April 30th, 2009: the fourth edition of the Call for Promotional Lecture closed. Two female scientists received the award: Dr. Alessandra Beni of the EMPA, Switzerland and MSc. Katarzyna Werniewicz of the IFW Dresden, Germany.
- April 30th, 2009: the fourth edition of the Short-term missions and Laboratory Visits closed. Two female scientists received the award: Assistant Professor Emilie Gaudry of the CNRS Nancy, France and Dr. Alessandra Beni of the ETH Zürich, Switzerland.
- April 24th, 2009: presentation on VIU-GM during the C-MAC kick-off meeting in Leuven, Belgium
- April 2009: Publication on VIU-GM in the EPWS Newsletter (March-April 2009 EPWS Newsletter)
- April 23rd, 2009: Participation in the annual event: “Girls: Go Polytechnics!”; a nation-wide action for middle- and high-school- level female students. The info-day aims to provide practical information for the girls: what subjects they should pass on their exit exams, what technical studies are like, where the jobs are, etc.
- March 13th, 2009: Promoting gender mainstreaming by distributing VIU-GM flyers during the conference “Women in Science”, organized by the Regional Information Centre for Scientists, Technical University, Krakow, Poland
- February 2009: Publication on the European Workshop on Promoting Gender Mainstreaming in Central and Eastern Europe and VIU-GM activity in the AGH Newsletter.
- January 2009: The fourth edition of the Call for Promotional Lecture opened. The deadline for applications: April 30th, 2009.

- December 10-11th, 2008: Course for Young Scientists on “Gender Working and Career Planning” held in Krakow, Poland. The trainer was Mrs. Ursula Fleckner-Jung of Weidich Consulting, Frankfurt, Germany.
- December 9th, 2008: Meeting of the VIU-GM Steering Committee, Krakow, Poland.
- December 8-9th, 2008: European Workshop on “Promoting Gender Mainstreaming in Central and Eastern Europe” (chairperson: Prof. A, Czyrska-Filemonowicz, secretaries: Dr Agnieszka Snyder, Elzbieta Stepniowska, MSc) held in Krakow, Poland, gathering 35 participants. The Proceedings were printed. They are also accessible on the VIU-GM’s website (intranet).
- September 18th, 2008: CMA Annual EC Review Meeting in Brussels, Belgium. The VIU-GM director, Professor Aleksandra Czyrska-Filemonowicz, presented the Unit’s activities.
- June 30th, 2008: The third edition of the Short-Term Missions and Laboratory Visits closed. Two female scientists received the award: Dr. Riccarda Caputo and Dr. Alessandra Beni, both of the ETH Zürich, Switzerland.
- June 30th, 2008: The third edition of the Call for Promotional Lecture closed. Two female scientists received the award: Dr. Beata Dubiel and Master of Science Liliana Kolwicz-Chodak, both of the AGH-University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland.
- June 5-7th, 2008: VIU-GM participated in the 1st EPWS conference „Women shaping science” held in Vilnius, Lithuania. The VIU-GM’s deputy director, Dr. Claire Bergman, gave an invited presentation on „Gender actions in the Network of Excellence CMA.”
- April 17th, 2008: Participation of the VIU-GM in an info-day for teachers (Krakow, Poland) - presentation on „Gender Mainstreaming - a chance for better employment for women” (by E. Stepniowska, A. Czyrska-Filemonowicz).
- April 10th, 2008: Participation of the VIU-GM in “Girls: go Polytechnics!” This action promoted technical college-level education among female students. The event took place in Krakow, Poland and was part of a nation-wide action.
- March 11th, 2008: Meeting of the VIU-GM Steering Committee, CNRS, Paris to discuss further VIU-GM actions and activities.
- December 2007: Report on Female Involvement in CMA.
- November 2007: VIU-GM registered with European Platform of Women Scientists.
- September 24th, 2007: Second Annual Review Meeting, Zürich, Switzerland. VIU-GM Director, Prof. Aleksandra Czyrska-Filemonowicz presented the VIU-GM activities in YEAR 2 and plans for YEAR 3.
- September 10-13th, 2007: The involvement of the VIU-GM in the organisation of the EUROMAT 2007 of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS), Nürnberg, Germany: implementation of gender equality during conference.
- June 2007: The second edition of the Short-term Missions and Laboratory Visits closed. There were two recipients of the award: Mrs. Marta Lipinska-Chwalek, a PhD student from Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany, and Dr. Anna Wnek of the AGH-University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland. Mrs. Lipinska-Chwalek visited the Laboratoire de Thermodynamique et de Physico-Chimie Métallurgiques (LTPCM) at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS)/ Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG), France. Dr. Wnek visited Professor Hans-Rainer Trebin’s group at the University of Stuttgart, Germany.
- June 2007: The second edition of the Call for Promotional Lecture closed. The recipient of the award was Dr. Katrin Domke of the Fritz-Haber-Institut of the Max-Plank-Gesellschaft in Berlin, Germany. Dr. Domke delivered her lecture on “Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy in well-defined environment: the parabolic-mirror approach” at the ETH Zürich, Switzerland.
- April 2-4th, 2007: Presentation on CMA VIU-GM activities by Dr. Agnieszka Snyder during “2nd EPNOE Workshop for PhD students,” Jena, Germany.
- March 30th, 2007: Kick-off meeting for the Mentoring Programme following the European Workshop in Marseille, France. The goals of the programme are to help young female scientists start and strengthen their professional careers, help them realize what their strengths are, and recognize how to achieve their goals.
- March 29-30th, 2007: European Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming on “How to Manage Professional and Private Life” (chairperson: Dr. Claire Bergman, secretary: Mrs Cathy Paitel-Haldenwang) took place in Marseille, France, gathering 50 participants. The Proceedings were printed. They are also accessible on the VIU-GM’s website (intranet).
- March 9th, 2007: Presentation on Women in Materials Science during “Gender Index Seminar,” Krakow, Poland delivered by the VIU-GM director, Professor Aleksandra Czyrska-Filemonowicz.
- February 2007: Questionnaire on “How to manage Professional and Private Life?” Starting point for the discussion during upcoming European Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming to be held on March 29-30th, in Marseille, France.
- October-December 2006: External activities to provide better understanding of a technically oriented profession; visits to schools in Krakow. Development and printing of the VIU-GM flyer, distribution in schools, universities and CMA institutions.
- October 11th, 2006 (month 16): The meeting of the VIU-GM Steering Committee in Leuven. Implementation of the CMA Mentoring Programme. The agenda of this meeting included a report on VIU-GM activities, Year 1 audit in Brussels and plans for Year 2 as well conclusions from the Gender Equality questionnaires. The minutes of the meeting in Leuven are on the CMA intranet.
- July 2006: Call for promotional lecture. The First Call for CMA promotional lecture was opened in July and closed in September 2006. The recipient was Mrs. Nathalie Mangelinck-Noel of the Laboratorie Materiaux et Microelectronique de Provence in Marseille. Mrs. Magnelinck-Noel presented a lecture on "Directional solidification of Al-Ni/Al-Si alloys and complex metallic alloys" at the Technical University of Aachen in Germany.
- July 6-7th 2006 (month 12): Annual CMA review meeting and Governing Board meeting in Brussels. The VIU-GM director presented achievements of the VIU-GM in the first year of activity (Year 1) and plans for Year 2.
- June 7th 2006 (month 12): Workshop on Women in Materials Science took place at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow (chairperson: Prof. A. Czyrska-Filemonowicz, secretary: Dr Agnieszka Snyder). The minutes of the workshop are available on the CMA intranet. The Workshop proceedings were printed as a separate book.
- March-May 2006 (month 9-11): The VIU-GM Steering Committee together with the institution representatives were to elaborate the Mentoring Programme. The programme of the Workshop on Women in Materials Science was completed. The VIU-GM deputy director, Dr Claire Bergman, presented the situation of women in Europe as well as the Gender Equality Action Plan of the VIU-GM to the CMA members during the CMA General Meeting in Berlin, May 8th.
- February 22nd 2006 (month 8): The meeting of the VIU-GM Steering Committee in Stuttgart. Establishing of the structure of VIU-GM, elaborating of the Network’s Gender Equality Action Plan, preparing of a questionnaire concerning GE within the CMA institutions, and discussing of the organisation of the Workshop on Women in Materials Science to be held in Krakow. The minutes of the meeting are available on the CMA intranet.
- January 2006 (month 7): The key persons of the CMA partner institutions were to identify a representative from each CMA institution to VIU-GM in order to encourage networking among women involved in the CMA.
- December 20th 2005 (month 6): During a meeting in Zürich the VIU-GM director, Prof. A. Czyrska-Filemonowicz, presented the activities of VIU-GM in 2005 (month 1-6) and plans for 2006 (month 7-12) to the Committee of Directors.
- December 2nd 2005 (month 6): The Preparatory Group met to discuss the activities to be performed within the VIU-GM Unit. During the meeting the VIU-GM Steering Committee was established. The members prepared a draft of a Gender Equality Action Plan. The minutes of this meeting are available on the CMA intranet.
- December 1-2nd 2005 (month 6): 1st Workshop for Gender Equality Officers was held at the Laboratoire de Chimie Physique Matière et Rayonnement of the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris (organizers: Dr Esther Belin-Ferré, Mrs Diana Szyf and Prof. Aleksandra Czyrska-Filemonowicz). The Workshop focused on discussion of the activities of gender mainstreaming in different institutions belonging to the CMA, the actions to be taken within the VIU-GM Unit, and elaboration of the GE Action Plan. The minutes of this Workshop are available on the CMA intranet. The Workshop proceedings were printed as a separate booklet; they are also available in the intranet.
- October 17th, 2005 (month 4): The VIU-GM activities started with a kick-off meeting held in Luxembourg, where a Preparatory Group was established. The group discussed the Gender Equality Action Plan and the organisation of the first Workshop for Gender Equality officers, which was supposed to take place in month 6. The VIU-GM director, Prof. A. Czyrska-Filemonowicz, presented the activities of the VIU-GM in 2005 (month 1-6) and plans for 2006 (month 7-12) to the CMA members.
